It is always a good idea to drain and flush your water heater at least once annually. This is a simple process that can extend the life of your water heater. Simply turn off the water supply and the water heater itself. Connect a hose to the faucet located at the bottom of the water heater and open the faucet up allowing the water to drain into a local drain in the floor or outside. After you have the faucet open also open the pressure relief valve located on the side near the top of the water heater. After 20-30 minutes the water heater will be drained and you can close the pressure relief valve and slowly turn on the water allowing the water to flush through. Finally, close the faucet at the bottom and refill the water heater. Turn the water heater back on and the process is complete. If you have any questions call your Jenison Plumber at 616-669-2210.
